Happy Birthday

I can't believe Zavion is almost two! Just 4 more days. Because his birthday is on a Monday we are having his birthday party on Saturday. Because his party is on a Saturday we decided to order his cake today to ensure we have one on Saturday. We went to the Target bakery and looked through one of two books. Zavion decided to start flipping through the other book on his own and saw a cake with dump trucks on it. So we looked through all the rest of the cakes and narrowed it down to three cakes: Sesame Street, Monster Trucks, or Dump Trucks. We showed him all the pictures and he picked out the dump trucks cake he saw first. After a little playful arguing I decided everyone would like a yellow cake with whipped vanilla frosting. (Justin wanted everything chocolate but I am not big on chocolate)

So far we have not decided what to get him for his birthday. We have talked about a small Fisher Price basketball hoop since he likes to be active and throw things. He will probably get lots of cars and we will probably try to find him another bus. He also likes bubbles and fish. We are going to go shopping tomorrow so hopefully we will find him some good stuff.

Last Krewe

Tonight we went to the last Mardi Gras parade at the Louisiana Boardwalk. We once again had EXCELLENT seats right next to the news crew, this time without the eight hour wait. There were new floats, kings and queens and TONS more beads. Zavion was able to collect a few more stuffed animals and some candy, beads of course and a few other odds and ends. This year has been the first that we have been this active in Mardi Gras and I look forward to next year and catching a few more parades with my boys.

Everything's Peachy...almost!

We attempted a few weeks ago to try Aidric on some baby bananas. We were unsuccessful, and he is the first child I have that has EVER spit out bananas. I figured we would give him a couple of days and try again. Since then he has been having a lot of trouble pooping and has now stopped all together. His doctor recommend baby juice, which also did not work, nor did he care too much for that. My mom suggested we try baby peaches as it also had that certain effect on me and my sister as babies. So today she did me the favor of buying him some peaches, and a special feeding bottle to try. He HATED the bottle, as he normally will not put anything in his mouth that isn't HIS bottle or HIS fingers. So we pushed a little and tried the spoon and he LOVED it.

He didn't eat too much but I think he ate enough to get things started. And he will have a little more tonight. Hopefully that will solve all his little problems and if not I guess we pack it up and back to Dr. Parker's we go.

Zavion's Bad Week...and it's only Tuesday

Last night Zavion decided to take the metal can lid off the counter and bring it to me. I put it on the table next to me and figured I would throw it away when I got up. He decided when I wasn't looking he would once again take it, and unfortunately learned the hard way why it is a bad idea to play with them. He sliced open his left pinky on the inside right at the first bend. He seemed ok and just held his hand up and said ow. Once I saw the blood dripping I jumped up and freaked out and that is when he started screaming. Justin picked him up and carried him into the kitchen and I put a cool, wet cloth on it to soak up the blood, but it just kept coming out. It was time for bath anyway so we threw him in the tub, but not without getting blood all over EVERYTHING first. We got him all cleaned up and put a band aid on it, which managed to stay on for a total of about ten minutes. He seemed ok so he went to bed and I haven't heard anything about it since.

This morning he woke up and chose the dog as his chair, as he usually does. Rebel wanted no part of it this morning and got up throwing Zavion to floor and busting his lip open. He cried for a minute as I AGAIN wiped off the blood and is now fine. Now that our house looks like a murder scene, I guess I better get to cleaning it up.

Krewe of Longs

I am very excited for Saturday to get here. It's the Krewe of Gemini Parade...the biggest parade in the area. We managed to score Vinny on our off week to take him but he doesn't know that yet (shh it's a surprise). We are going to go park early so we get a good spot and take both cars so we can come and go as we please while still reserving our spot. We went to the Krewe of Barkus and Meoux and while the boys had fun, I think they knew they were kind of getting ripped off of beads and candy. Hopefully on Saturday they will make out like junior bandits. I am planning to clear the camera and take TONS of pictures of all of them hanging out and having a good time. WOO HOO...I can't wait!!!

Happy Mardi Gras

Today we went to the Krewe of Barkus and Meoux Parade in celebration of Mardi Gras. Not being from LA, Justin and I are not that big into the whole over done celebration or the extra crowds of people. However, we thought it would be fun to see all of the dogs and cats (and 3 ponies and one parrot) dressed up for the ccelebration. There were hundreds of dogs everywhere, but we only actually saw one cat. There were dog tricks and costume contests and lots of cute but very overpriced doggie things for sale. Justin was excited to see 3 huskies and I was happy to see several dozen golden retrievers. There were a few chocolate labs, none as handsome as Rebel, and tons of yorkies, none of which can compare to my perfectly precious Bit Bit. I am considering working very hard with bit bit over the next year so i can enter him and maybe win Lord of Chow or something fun. The boys had a blast and enjoyed pettng all the dogs and seeing their funny costumes. They even got ballons, both of which popped before we got back to the car. Aidric enjoyed being carried the whole time and checking out all the things that were at his eye level. We are looking forward to next Saturday when we will hopefully attend the Krewe of Gemini...THEE parade to see and be seen at.

School Confusion

So today I sat down to look up some information on the school Vinny will be attending for kindergarten. Boy was I in for a surprise. The school is VERY small, which I already new since you can barely even see it from the road that it is right next to. The grade range is K-3. Then he will go to another school that is only grades 4-5. THEN, he will go to middle school which is grades 6-8, then high school for 9-12. I went to MANY MANY schools as a child because we moved a lot. But even if we stay in the same place for his entire "school career" that is still 4 different schools. And his middle school, which is a few years from now, I still don't even know where that is. I just know he gets on a bus and goes away to it. To me it is just weird the way they split up the elementary schools. There are rumors of a new high school being built so maybe it will all change once it is done, but i haven't heard much else about it. Hopefully once I throw myself into the PTA, bakesales, book fairs, and countless (I'm sure) parent teacher conferences, I will figure out how all this makes sense.

Paging Dr.......and Dr.........

Today is some sort of record day of surgeries for my family. My grandmother is still undergoing her second knee replacement. She had her first one ten years ago and developed some sort of infection and is now having another one. The did some tests over the last couple of weeks due to her allergy to metals and finally found something that they would be able to use as a replacement. Hopefully they will be able to release her sooner than last time she was in the hospital and more recovered and able to walk as well. My sister is also having surger today. Since high school she has found several small lumps in and around her chest. This will be her 4th surgery for this and so far so good...all lumps have been nothing. She has two this time but her doctor is only going to remove one for now. The location of the other one would leave a very big scar that would not be covered by her wedding dress and since her wedding is less than three months away, he didn't want to do that to her. I am sure everyone will be fine in the end...as well as heavily medicated.

Cleaning for Spoons

I am so greatful that Justin came home and helped me clean the house today. He had reserves all day and didn't "work" too hard so when he got home he got right to work. I have recently noticed that we are getting seriously low on spoons and decided that we needed to clean the house and maybe some would turn up. I made a joke to Justin that I wouldn't put the clean towels and blankets away because I knew he would want something to do when he arrived. When he got home he put them away, then started to clean the kitchen and desktop. I felt slightly guilty for sitting on the couch watching tv while he did all that so i took the cushions off the couch and cleaned all the stuff out of there...only making $0.10. We could consider this our Spring Cleaning, because we even pulled out the stove and vacuumed up a few dead bugs and countless dry noodles...that resulted in a $0.25 paycheck. i must have cleaned more recently than i thought because normally a big cleaning like that turns out a lot more loose change. In the end we only found a few of the boys' spoons and one fork...then justin cleaned out the cars. i am not sure how, but somehow, most of our spoons were transported there. i am glad that we not only cleaned the house, but found the spoons that i use to eat pretty much ALL of my food.

No No NO!!!!!

Zavion has finally reached the stage I have been dreading for a long time....his "NO" stage. He is not the typical little boy that has the answer of "no" to everything. It's more of the heartbreaking and whiney "no" he screams when you take something away from him. There are many things he enjoys playing with that while they won't hurt him, he still doesn't need to play with. For example: Parmesean Cheese. It's not hurting ANYTHING for him to dump it all over the table and play in it. However it causes a large mess resulting in not only a bath time but having to buy another container of cheese. I feel so guilty taking it away from him as he screams "no mommy no no" but unfortunately I have no choice. I have other messes to clean and "fish to flush" (may Ishy the Fish rest in peace in the sewer system).

Starting Out

I am starting a new blog so everyone can try to keep up with us. I wish you all the best of luck because I can't even manage that most of the time. Hope you enjoy the things you will read in the future.
